Richard Manning

After six seasons as head coach, Rich Manning has brought the University of Utah women’s soccer program to national prominence, directing the Utes to Top 25 National Rankings and 5 NCAA Tournament appearances. During this time, Utah has compiled a record of 84-29-14 (.716 winning percentage). Manning was named Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year in 2002, 2005 and 2006 and NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year in 2003.

Success at the collegiate level is nothing new to Manning. Prior to coming to Utah he was the associate head coach and an assistant coach at Santa Clara University for four years. During his time at Santa Clara the Broncos won the 2001 National Championship, competed in three College Cups (NCAA Final Four) and won three West Coast Conference championships.

Manning helped recruit and develop some of the top soccer players in the country while at Santa Clara. Nine players from his tenure have appeared with the U.S. National Team, and sixteen played in WUSA.

Prior to joining the Santa Clara coaching staff, Manning helped develop the Southern California Blues into one of the top girls’ youth programs in the country. Manning made a name for himself as a player at Santa Clara from 1982-1986, thriving under the guidance of former U.S. National Team coaches Steve Sampson and Ralph Perez. As a senior, Manning was captain of the Broncos and earned All Far West accolades after an outstanding season.
